App Opportunity Finder
$10K–$50K/month with under 10K total ratings — proven demand, beatable incumbents.
Methodology
Revenue and download figures are last-month worldwide estimates. Rating counts come from the App Store. The opportunity score divides monthly revenue by lifetime rating count: an app earning $30K/month with 800 ratings scores ~$37 per rating, while a giant earning $3M with 5M ratings scores under $1 — the former is the market a new entrant can attack. The dataset covers the top-chart apps bundled with Appstro; use search to analyze any specific app.
Demand here means chart performance, not queries — nothing on this page has seen what anyone typed into search. For the other side of that, the app idea finder starts from the searches Apple actually suggests and reads how well the existing apps answer them.
About this tool
Where is there money and weak competition?
Most category research starts with a category you already chose. This starts from the charts: it looks across genres for places where the apps holding positions are earning real money without being especially strong listings, and surfaces those as candidates worth a closer look.
It is a starting point for research, not a verdict. What it can do is stop you evaluating a niche one hunch at a time.
How it works
- 1Chart positions come from Apple’s public top-charts feeds across genres.
- 2Revenue and download estimates for the apps holding those positions come from the same third-party source used across this site.
- 3Genres are compared on what the incumbents earn against how contested the positions look.
- 4Candidates link straight through to the category page and the per-app tools so you can check them properly.
What it cannot tell you
- A weak-looking niche can be weak for a reason — a tiny audience, a brutal acquisition cost, or a platform rule that makes the obvious product impossible.
- Revenue figures are third-party estimates, rounded, worldwide and before Apple’s commission.
- There is no search volume behind any of this, so "demand" here means chart performance, not queries.
Questions
How do I find a good app niche?
This narrows the field by showing where chart incumbents earn well without dominating, but the decision needs things it cannot see: whether you can build it, reach those users, and keep them.
Are the revenue numbers real?
They are third-party estimates, rounded and worldwide. Use them to compare niches against each other, not as anyone’s accounts.
What should I do with a candidate niche?
Open its category page to see who holds the chart, then run the keyword and screenshot tools on the incumbents to see how strong those listings actually are.
