What moved in the App Store charts each week

Chart movement is only interesting in context: an app at #40 means little, an app that was at #90 last week means something. Each issue archives a week of movement across the charts so the record survives after the live view has moved on.

Issues are generated from the same daily chart snapshots that power the trending page, so the archive and the live view cannot disagree.

How it works
  1. 1Chart positions are snapshotted daily from Apple’s public top-charts feeds.
  2. 2Each week the snapshots are diffed into climbers, fallers, new entrants and drop-offs.
  3. 3An issue is written per week and kept as a dated page.
  4. 4Every app links through to its full stats.
What it cannot tell you
  • The archive starts when the snapshots did. There is no history from before that.
  • Drop-offs are suppressed when a snapshot looks incomplete, because a half-fetched day would otherwise read as fifty apps leaving the store overnight.
  • Chart movement is not revenue. An app can climb on a promotion and earn nothing.
