Comparison
App analytics tools, compared
There is no ranking on this page. Nobody here has run all 7 of these for a quarter, so a score would be invented. What follows is the shortlist, in alphabetical order, with one line on what separates each — and a link to the vendor’s own pricing page, because a price restated here would be out of date before you read it.
Amplitude
Funnels, cohorts and retention analysis, with feedback and experimentation in the same platform.
Aptabase
Open source and privacy-first, built for mobile and desktop rather than adapted from web analytics. Self-hostable.
Countly
First-party analytics you can run on your own infrastructure or in a private cloud.
Firebase
Free and bundled with remote config, messaging and the rest of the platform. Adding it has App Privacy questionnaire consequences worth reading first.
Mixpanel
Product analytics with session replay, experiments and feature flags in the same tool.
PostHog
Open source, with replay, flags and experiments bundled. Self-hostable.
TelemetryDeck
Cookieless, and scoped to Apple platforms rather than cross-platform.
What you have to check yourself
None of this is knowable from outside, and it is where the decision actually gets made.
- What the SDK actually collects, because you have to declare it on the App Privacy questionnaire as your own collection — not the vendor’s.
- Whether events are priced per event, per user or per seat. Event pricing and a chatty app is the combination that produces surprise bills.
- Whether you need identity at all. Several apps get what they need from anonymous aggregates, which is a far smaller privacy declaration.
- Data residency, if you have EU users.
- Whether it can export raw events. Analytics you cannot get back out is analytics you are renting.
